WHY FASGI STARTED FILVOTE
• In 1996, FASGI formed FILVOTE in response to a lack of a united
voice (“Filipinos happy in US but lack united voice,” LA Times, 1996)
• FILVOTE was a countywide project from 1996-2006 (LA County)
• FILVOTE presented its community program at the 2006 NaFFAA
Empowerment Conference in Hawaii and received tremendous
attention as a tool to mobilize Filipino American voters
